A decade ago poor Donal Riordan was left in a sticky situation at the end of Dark Blood , so I am delighted to read that you are working on a continuation / conclusion.
Cheers, Mark... I really couldn't leave him like that any longer.
I've tried to make his reappearance more interesting than "with one bound, he was free..."
It's been a decade since anyone has heard from Donal, but he's obviously the only one who can handle the situation. The looming question is: can a zombie be reanimated after their necroflux battery has been discharged several years?
Also, will it be possible for the original cover artist to be commissioned again to maintain continuity with the first two books? And have you considered including "Necroflux Day" in Requiem, or perhaps have a short anthology novella titled "Tales from Tristopolis" that include various stories from the gothic megapolis?
I know I've mentioned it previously, but a graphic novel or live action adaptation would be such a treat for this series!
Thank you for continuing the Tristopolis series, this is one fan who has lurked for years awaiting another foray into the city.
Sorry to keep you waiting... though not half as sorry as Donal is feeling. Luckily, I can pick up the story without a decade-long delay in Tristopolis time!
I've already commissioned the cover design I posted - I'm using the same designer for all my new book covers. The new book's appearance won't quite match the earlier ones, I'm afraid. It's going to be the one edition worldwide, so if I'd been trying to match the earlier ones, I'd have had to pick one version (US, UK or German - they were all different) and drop the other two anyway.
As for the short fiction - thank you for noticing there's a short story! There's a scene in the novel that's reminiscent of a scene in Necroflux Day, so it might not work... but I'll think about it. I have written a new short story called Tristopolis Dreaming, which may appear in a magazine first.
I like the idea of a Tales from Tristopolis collection!
I'm about a quarter of the way through the main rewrite. Keep holding your breath! And thank you...

Also the graphic novel idea... Once the new book's got some traction, perhaps I'll put a little more effort into investigating that. As for live action, there's nothing much I can do to drum up interest - it just has to happen. (Two major studios did make sounds of interest, but neither came to anything. I never got to talk to any of their people directly.)

You really have been busy! I enjoyed Destructor Function very much (bought for Kindle, and in paper for a cave dwelling friend), and I'm waiting a moment for On The Brink to appear in paper as well. Self-publishing agrees with you...
Anyway, writing to point out that both Riordan and Case are compromised at a critical point by some spell or other. That's a thing with you, I think. Trying to remember whether that happened to Cumberland or Corcorian, or any of the Ragnarok ragamuffins...
Now, time to track down your short stories. Hmm, maybe another self-published volume?
Hi Chris... And thanks for re-reading Bone Song! Plus the kind words re Destructor Function. I'm really, really enjoying the control that self-publishing gives me. I spent over a year looking into it beforehand, and I've still got to get a handle on the marketing side, but it's the books that are important, I think. (Productive indie authors like Joe Konrath and the super-productive Kristine Kathryn Rush and Dean Wesley Smith would agree.)
There were definitely echoes between Destructor Function and Bone Song, and I felt it as I was writing those parts... I don't think I've used the compromised-by-spell notion in Edge/Point or any of the Pilots books, but something might have slipped my mind!
On The Brink is almost ready in paperback. The cover is done and uploaded, along with the contents. I just need a final electronic read-through and then I'll order a proof copy so I can check it looks OK when printed. That takes a few days to arrive, but I expect it'll be all done within a week.
I hadn't even mentioned On The Brink on the website/blog simply because I thought I'd wait for the paperback to be ready as well... Thanks for spotting it!
I really like the idea of a collection of all my short stories in one place. I like that a lot. I've no idea what to call it, though!
Chiming in to say I've been doing a happy dance since I saw this post a few weeks ago, and am rereading Bone Song to get in the mood. Thanks much to Robert Greenshaw for mentioning Necroflux Day, tracked down a copy of the book (through my Scribd subscription) and loved it. Just can't wait!
